Programs & Services | Summer Camp
Making Life Better for Kids Impacted by HIV/AIDS
From 1993 to present day, Camp Heartland has provided fun, exciting and progressive camp experiences to kids living with or affected by HIV/AIDS. Filled with diverse activities and an amazing community of people, camping offers the opportunity for personal growth, social development and good old-fashioned fun. Experiences like Camp Heartland's summer camp program can make a profound and very positive difference to children impacted by HIV/AIDS.
At summer camp sessions campers build permanent friendships, self-confidence, cherished memories, self-sufficiency, social skills and a sense of hope and liberation. During the year, these experiences often translate into improved quality of life: better grades, increased compliance with difficult medical treatments, more effective anger management, improved self-image, new friends and a stronger will to “pull-through” in tough times.
The Camp Heartland staff has been grateful to be part of the lives of thousands of wonderful young people facing life with HIV/AIDS over the past decade. Every day, we miss the nearly 60 children we have lost, but we have also seen many more grow and thrive. More than 75 former campers, now young adults, have returned to Camp Heartland in leadership roles to help create the magic of camp that was such an essential part of their childhood.
The combination of a superb and unique camping program and many amazing campers has created one of the most respected camping programs for children with special needs. Please read more in depth information on the Camp Heartland Camping Experience and its many programs.
