The Journey of Hope AIDS Awareness Tour

Ten years ago, Camp Heartland embarked on the first ever-national AIDS awareness tour to address issues affecting children and their families living with HIV/AIDS.

Eight children and young adults, along with their parents traveled with Camp Heartland staff on a "rock and roll" tour bus from New York City to Orlando, Florida for two-weeks, speaking to thousands of young people.

In addition, the group met with celebrities, business leaders, and government officials along the way, including Former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, Donna Shalala, Coretta Scott King, several mayors and other community leaders.

The tour was profiled by CBS in a made-for-TV movie, "Before Your Eyes - Angelie's Secret." In addition, extensive local media coverage occurred in each media market visited.

    Announcing the 2005...

Camp Heartland Journey of Hope AIDS Awareness Tour Presented by GE Healthcare

    Voices of Hope...Faces of Hope...
    A Journey of Hope

To honor 10 years of speaking out about the issues affecting families with HIV/AIDS, Camp Heartland will again travel the country in hopes of celebrating the strides we have made, while calling attention to the need for continued vigilance in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

In April 2005, Camp Heartland and GE Healthcare will launch a national 4-week bus tour reaching thousands of people to promote AIDS education, compassion and testing. Starting in Minneapolis, the tour will travel throughout the Midwest and Western states ending in Los Angeles.

More than 30 children and young adults will be traveling along with the Camp Heartland staff on the Journey of Hope Tour. These courageous speakers are either living with HIV/AIDS, have family members with the disease or have lost loved ones to the disease. They will share their thoughts on what it is like to live with a life-threatening disease, their experiences of telling friends and neighbors and their hopes for the future.
