About the Seasonal Summer Camp Staff
Staff join us from around the country and around the world! Each year we hire a wide variety of seasonal staff who come from all walks of life. Some are teachers, students, nurses, social workers, service providers and so on. Our goal is to hire a fun, creative, compassionate and hard-working staff that will not only serve as great role models but will also reflect the diversity of our children.

If you are an individual interested in applying for any of the positions listed below for our summer camp program, please see our “How To Apply” (link) section of our Web site.

    Administrative Staff
Our “Admin” team, led by our Camp Director, includes our Assistant Camp Director, Boy's and Girl's Unit Directors, Leaders-In-Training Director, Adventure Program Director and Program Director. Together this group works to select, train and supervise camp staff. During the summer, the Admin team will be very visible and available: ensuring the success of the summer, supporting staff and facilitating the camping program. They are responsible for the safe implementation of an extraordinary camp experience.

    Program Staff Positions
    · CAMP ASSISTANT (CA) - It is hard to describe exactly what the role of a CA is because there are so many unique needs that arise at camp. As a CA you might find yourself assisting with programming, facilitating a meal, helping out in the office, filling in for a counselor, running a skill, on supervision duty in the evening, driving a camp vehicle full of campers or helping our kitchen staff during meals!

    · CABIN COUNSELOR - Being a counselor is a lot like being a parent. You help and guide campers in their home away from home. You might find yourself waking kids in the morning, rallying your cabin for a skit, leading or assisting in a skill area, dressing up in goofy costumes or reading stories. You will generally work with two co-counselors in a living unit for 7-10 campers. Creativity, flexibility and experience working with children will be a wonderful asset to you in this position!

    · SKILL LEADERS - These positions work directly with the Program Director and Outdoor Education Coordinator to help facilitate skills and evening programs. You will develop programs, run cabin time, and teach and coordinate staff in the areas listed below:

    - WATERFRONT - Hold current LGT certification and have PRIOR experience. Teach and supervise boating, fishing & beachfront activities.

    - ARTS & CRAFTS - Inspire all of our camp artists (that's everyone!). Teach and supervise in the art room. Contagious creativity required!

    - CLIMBING WALL - Hold current climbing certification and have prior experience facilitating a climbing wall. Position will supervise, facilitate and maintain standards at our climbing wall.

Psychological Services Coordinator & Summer Intern
Our Psychological Services Program is led each summer by a licensed professional filling the role of Psychological Services Coordinator, and is supported by a Summer Psychological Services Intern. These individuals consult with social workers and mental health professionals affiliated with Camp Heartland and its clients and families pre-season. During the summer, the team works together to provide support in addressing the emotional and behavioral needs and issues presented in our campers. These needs and issues can be related or unrelated to HIV/AIDS. Areas where this team provides intervention may include death and dying issues, grief counseling, behavior management, pediatric issues and supportive counseling. The Psychological Services Coordinator and Summer Intern commit their experience and services for the duration of the summer program.

If you are qualified professional and are interested in the Psychological Services Coordinator or Summer Intern position, and are interested in volunteering or working for the duration of our summer programs, please see our "How To Apply" section of our Web site.

    Medical Volunteers
There is no such thing as an infirmary at Camp Heartland! "Club Meds" (as we like to call it) plays a crucial role at camp. Under the direction of Darlene Baker, RN, our Healthcare & Client Services Manager, a team of nurses and physicians ensure that all camper and staff medical needs are met. At every camp session, Camp Heartland's exceptional medical team ensures the safety and well being of each camper. Working from "Club Meds," camp nurses and doctors are on call 24 hours a day to distribute medicines and care for each camper's individual medical needs.

If you are a registered nurse or physician and are interested in volunteering for a one-week session, please see our "How To Apply" section of our Web site.
